If you intend to use Adobe Digital Editions with portable devices, you WILL need to activate your copy of Adobe Digital Editions with an Adobe ID (you can get one here and it is free).
When you install Adobe Digitial Editions, you'll be prompted to activate:
Next you'll be given an option to authorize or not authorize the computer. Please note the following regarding activating vs. not activating Adobe Digital Editions:
If you authorize the computer with an Adobe ID…
- You will be able to download an Adobe eBook on up to 6 computers/devices that have been activated with the same Adobe ID.
- You will be able to transfer Adobe eBooks to supported eBook devices activated with the same Adobe ID.
If you choose not to authorize the computer, note these limitations…
- You will only be able to read a downloaded Adobe eBook on a single computer.
- You can activate using an Adobe ID at any time. However, if you activate Adobe Digital Editions with an Adobe ID which has already been used on another computer, the Adobe eBooks you originally downloaded while using anonymous activation will no longer work.
If you have a mobile device such as an iPad, Nook, or Sony eReader, you'll want to select "Authorize Computer" and enter your Adobe ID information:
Once you click "Activate", you'll receive a thank-you for activating and you're ready to use Adobe Digital Editons!
